Session: S53-Transgender Medicine: What Every Physician Should Know
Room 130 (Moscone Center)
Cross-sex hormone treatment of transsexuals is based on principles of treating sex hormone deficiencies but now applied to the opposite sex. Data from long term prospective cohort studies suggest that cross hormone therapy presents minimal increased risk of adverse events. The relative rarity of transsexualism, the scattering of endocrine treatment over many centers, and the non-acceptance of double-blind placebo-controlled studies are impediments to strong evidence in regards to the efficacy and safety of cross-sex hormone treatment.
