Biographical Sketch:
COL (Dr.) Andrew J Bauer, M.D. is an associate professor of pediatrics and pathology at the Uniformed Services University, where he serves as the Pediatric Endocrinology program director of the National Capital Consortium, as well as an adjunct associate professor of pediatrics, Perelman School of Medicine, University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Bauer’s clinical research area of interest is in the study of pediatric thyroid nodular disease and thyroid cancer and his basic science area of interest is exploring the molecular mechanisms involved in thyroid cancer invasion and metastasis. Within this capacity, Dr. Bauer serves as the senior consultant for the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia Pediatric Thyroid Center, a multidisciplinary center organized to provide coordinated and comprehensive care for children and adolescents with thyroid disorders as well as an associate investigator on a National Cancer Institute sponsored study examining the natural history of DICER1-related pleuropulmonary blastoma cancer predisposition syndrome. Dr. Bauer maintains active membership in the American Academy of Pediatrics, where he serves on the Committee on Pediatric Research, the Endocrine Society, the Pediatric Endocrine Society, and the American Thyroid Association, where he currently serves on the editorial board for the journal Thyroid as well as on multiple subcommittees to include the thyroid hormone replacement task force, the Surgical Affairs pre-operative staging TF and on the evaluation and management of pediatric thyroid nodule and thyroid cancer guideline task force.
