Biographical Sketch:
Dr. Robert A. Adler is Chief of Endocrinology and Metabolism at the McGuire Veterans Affairs Medical Center and Professor of Internal Medicine and of Epidemiology and Community Health at Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine in Richmond. He received his MD and internal medicine training at Johns Hopkins and did his endocrinology fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital and Walter Reed Army Medical Center. Recent studies focus on screening men for osteoporosis, osteoporosis in men on androgen deprivation therapy for prostate cancer, using electronic medical records to identify patients at risk for osteoporosis, and osteoporosis in patients with mobility disorders, such as spinal cord injury and Parkinsonís disease. He is a reviewer for many journals and is a member of the editorial board of the Journal of Clinical Densitometry, Endocrine Research, the Journal of Bone and Mineral Research, Osteoporosis International, and the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism. He has been a member of the Endocrine Society Male Osteoporosis Guidelines Committee, the American Society for Bone and Mineral Research Task Force on Atypical Femoral Fractures, and the American Dental Association Committee on Osteonecrosis of the Jaw in patients with osteoporosis and in cancer patients receiving anti-resorptive therapies.
